Hey! I used to do that too. Now I just skip the straw. My frozen food
doesn't stay frozen long enough for me to worry about getting ALL the
air out. I buy food to freeze and go through it in a very short time.
Vacuum packaging not necessary here.

I do it when when I use the sous vide I often make a lot at once and then
freeze. The plastic pockets are very strong which I prefer for that kind of
work.
