>Yup, Cindy, women can find a great career in STEM. I'm in workforce development and a number of women have found GREAT careers in skilled manufacturing trades. A local agency has a welding program for women, those grads are snapped right up (always multiple offers)...good money and bennies right out the gate.

The curriculum and certifications are the same as the Welding Fast Track but the program and wrap around support services are customized to meet the needs of this demographic. Classes are held part-time on a case-by-case schedule, as determined by work schedule..."

Thousands of those jobs here in Chicagoland are going begging, manufacturing and engineering firms would like to expand, they simply can't find the skilled workers they need...and now there are training programs specifically for women, they'd be smart to take advantage!
I agree 500%. I worked at a National Laboratory for 25 years as a
master tool & diemaker. Nat'l Labs are very liberal, they initiated
many apprenticeship programs for skilled trades and gave preference to
females and minorities. Out of all we tried to train not one took the
program seriously, all eventually dropped out, they wasted a lot of
resources and their own lives. Had they applied themselves they'd
have jobs today paying over $80K plus 20K in OT and great benies.
Without toolmakers no society can exist... since the beginning of
recorded history there have been only two useful occupations,
toolmaker and who
