Things that go bump in the night should be investigated. I used to have an
OCD spector washing their hands in the bedroom bath at night. I first
assumed that my wife had come home from work and was washing her hands in
the bathroom sink. After this went on for quite a while, I got up and
checked to see what the problem was. What a surprise to see nobody there.
After mulling on this for a while, it was ascertained that this was caused
by the interaction between a fan and the sound of car tires on rain soaked
streets outside the bedroom. I heard this startling phenomenon on numerous
occasions. I haven't heard this in years because I simply moved the fan. Too
bad, I miss that hand-washing ghost.

You could always put the fan back <g>
