They are pretty tough, but I can tell you that they can break. My wife
used to have a bad habit pouring water into hot cast iron pans. I can't
tell you how many times I warned her not to. One day she dumped some
water into a pan after removing whatever she had cooked in it. Some
water slopped over and the glass cracked.
