Yes, and butter. The addition of cream is, as new poster Di from Italy
pointed out, an American addition.
Who knows why the OP can't eat it? If it made me sick ("It's the jar
and especially homemade"), I simply wouldn't eat it. Nothing that makes
me feel ill is worth eating.
