He didn't have any money to begin with. Future bankruptcy is not out of
the question. Why else would he have been living in what amounts to a
boarding house for years? All those certifications (he's a REGISTERED
NURSE, don't forget! And he occasionally makes chocolate covered
cherries.) Splitting the rent with 4 (or was it 5) other people. Maybe
it's a group home for people with mental health issues. Heh.

BTW, he's never actually mentioned how much the RENT is. For each of
those rooms/spaces. From all the occupants including himself.
