Yes, very normal.

There was a wonderful place in Pusan Korea with these HUGE noodle
bowls. You got like 1/2 gallon with a noodle ball in the middle, a set
of scizzors and a smaller bowl for each person at the table. You cut
the noodles and put them in your bowl then dipped out the soup over it.
