When I left the UK in 1971, it had been announced that the UK was going
to transition to use celsius. At first they would use F followed by C
then after a while they would use C followed by F and then C only. Even
on my visit this year, I heard the forecasters give the temperatures in
C followed by F.
Shortly after arriving in Australia, the met people said that as of the
following Monday, they were going to change to C with no transition. We
soon got used to it although they still referred occasionally to 38C as
a "century" temperature.
It's a bit weird watching a US news program where they still use F
whereas we Canadians use C (except for cooking as our ovens are mostly
made in the US).
