Never stopped one of 16 cats on the ranch I usta lodge!

I was jes a kid, but I recall Ed (the man) tossing one of the 2 black
cats into a Bantam hen's new brood. She tried to peck the cat, to
save her new brood of half dozen newly hatched chicks, but not before
the cat skiddadled with one now-dead chick. Ed took out that
particular cat with a .410 shotgun.

All the other cats never bothered the banty chickens. One did and one
died. Maybe the other cats heard about it!
