If you're talking about a hand-held mixer (which is what I always
use for meringue and beating cream): I use and recommend this Kenwood.

A couple of months ago my 48 year old Kenwood hand mixer died in my
arms, or hand, after a lifetime of loyal service. I was amazed to find
that the current Kenwood hand mixer is almost identical AND, the price
today is only slightly more than in 1969.

Though back then, that sum was my entire weekly wage so splurging the
lot on a mixer was quite an investment.
