I went through this with my son not to long ago. He lived in Montreal
for about 10 years and macarons were quite common there. My mother used
to make (coconut) macaroons. He didn't grasp the coconut and I was
insisting there was no filling, but then I realized he was referring to
macarons, not macaroons.
