The US has libel and slander laws too.
Corporations will often threaten to destroy individuals who speak out
against them by threatening to take them to court eventhough the
individuals can prove that they are telling the truth.
The corporations can generate enough bogus litigation to make things
into a big court case that they with their legal staff can afford and
that individuals cannot.
