Simple definition:
An economic system in which the production and distribution of goods are
controlled substantially by the government rather than by private
enterprise, and in which cooperation rather than competition guides
economic activity. There are many varieties of socialism.


That sounds nice, but do you want the government to control everything?
Do you want the government to determine the cars we drive, the types of
housing to be built, how much money we can earn? Government control of
food production? What the stores will carry?
