The Donuts were a smashing SUCCESS!!! :-)
Apple fritters are even better dusted with powdered sugar. There was (is?) a restaurant
in Oklahoma City named "Apple....something." No, not Applebee's. (The time I had dinner
there, a favorite menu item was New England Pot Roast.). As soon as you were seated and
your order given, waiters would come around with baskets of hot, fresh apple fritters to
snack on while waiting for your dinner. They were SO good. They were the type of fritter
made like yours, christ, with diced or grated apples mixed into a batter, then fried. I have
seen recipes for apple fritters that are sliced whole apple rings coated with batter, then fried.
That isn't something I think I would like.
