When I was growing up I rarely added salt to my food. I only started
using it regularly after I got married. Since I tried to stay out of the
way when my wife was cooking it took me a long time to figure it out.
She wasn't using enough salt when cooking. While I would take a good
hefty pinch of salt, she was using a salt shaker to sprinkle a little
salt into the cooking water. Using ample salt in the cooking water
makes a huge difference.
