I will not name a few alternatives. You aren't really interested in my answer anyway and I'm not one to waste time
The real question is if the quest for scientific advancement can take precedence over people? Should researchers be able to operate without boundaries or ethical considerations? Do we get to perform experiments on people without their consent or knowledge? Perhaps they should build their telescope in the middle of St. Peter's Square. That would be cool.
