I don't know how common this is, however, we had our first glass-top
range for almost five years, then moved to another house and had another
one for over three years before moving again. We never had a problem,
and I would never consider buying anything else. Presently, we have a
coil-top range which I can't wait to get rid of. Have you ever seen one
the coils explode and burn? They can and do, although not frequently. I
think you take your chances regardless the type. I'd rather take my
chances with glass.
