Good summary.

Don't forget a much overlooked region that is available in the US,
Champagne. Varietals are some blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot
Meunier. Sometimes made with only one variety. In the best cases, to
be tasted the same way as a "regular" wine...
