Several years ago, I got some seeds of a mostly wild tomato variety from
Native Seeds Search (
www.nativeseeds.org). The fruit were the size of
berries with a deep, strong tomato flavor. When I stopped planting
tomatoes, they continued to volunteer for years. Our old dog, Jet, used to
nibble the ripe ones right off the bush.
I just checked their web site; they don't seem to have that variety any
more. This looks like the closest thing in their current catalog:

I've never seen them in stores, but maybe someone in growing them
commercially now.
