Apparently failure to open does not mean that they absolutely have to be
thrown out. If they had just died they could be okay, but you don't know
if they just died or have been dead long enough to have become toxic.
My wife once got very sick on mussels. We were not sure if it was bad
mussels or an allergy. It doesn't matter to me. If you can get that sick
on them I am not interested in eating them.
