Here's the weird thing. I owned birds when my first cat Persia showed up
at my back door and demanded to be let inside. She lived side by side
with my caged parakeets and later my Fischer lovebird. Yes, I had to
teach her those birds were not food or toys. I also knew, for at least
the first 6 months, to keep them apart in separate rooms when I was away
at work. Then to have them in the same room when I was home. Persia
did quickly learn the birds were like her. Pets, not cat food.

Buffy is different. She pays absolutely no attention to the birds at
the year round bird bath or at the feeder (hummingbird in the warm
months, seed feeders in cold weather.) She couldn't care less about birds.

She does spot lizards and snakes and spiders.
