Only if a cheap pan and probably mis-used. I've used many pans and
never had a problem. Eventually it does lose some properties and I toss
the pan after 5 or 10 years.

Most nonstick pans are coated with polytetrafluoroethylene, also known
as Teflon. The good news is that ingesting small flakes of nonstick
coating is not dangerous. The material will most likely just pass
through the body.
