Don't underestimate coyotes. I used to love to go walking in the woods
at night, just me and my dog. I don't do it anymore because of the
coyotes. Someone on the next road was walking their dog in the evening
and they were attacked by a coyote. It went after the dog. A couple
years ago a woman hiking in Cape Breton was attacked and killed by
coyotes. I have seen a couple cross bred coyotes that were the size of
deer. Apparently there is one in the woods behind us. Father John saw it
and said it looks to be at least 150, and another neighbour told me he
say it a couple weeks ago running down our lane and that it is so big he
thought it was a deer.

Coyotes are not always solitary. I hear them in packs at night and I
hear them chasing down prey. It is a scary sound.
