I love to cook and since my husband is a chef, it seems it would be
great to have a functional and beautiful kitchen, not that we can
afford to do it RIGHT. I was chatting online with someone who spent
$95,000 getting a single Rabinowitz-designed kitchen and medium-sized
bath. She was describing the kitchen part as a work of modern art,
though understated just as she wanted. She said that working in her
kitchen is like nothing she could have experienced before. She
obviously is wealthy -- she has a full-size Sub Zero refrigerator next
to an equal size Sub Z freezer, granite countertops, etc. She had him
design the cabinetry for Poggenpohl brand, which used to be German but
I think, although technically German, is owed by a Scandinavian
company now. She sought out having Rabinowitz design her kitchen
although she lives in Connecticut for three reasons, which are amazing
to me: 1) she said he is known to make kithens with incredibly
functional designs tailored ad nauseum to your every need, 2) she said
having a kitchen designed by him because he is well-known, especially
if you get high-quality cabinetry, appliances, and countertops
increases the value of your house tremendously so you get your money
back and then some and 3) because you have to deal with some
inexperienced idiot if you go to the big home stores like Lowe's who
have someone design your kitchen like a video game on a computer.

I don't know about the last point, but I can see how there would be a
difference I guess between a well known artist and a kitchen salesman,
similar to a Rolls Royce and a go-kart. Both will eventually get your
to your destination, but one is more comfortable.

But, I don't know....
