That's why I always pack one box with just those very essentials, and
hand carry it to the new place. I make sure I have in that box, all
the stuff I might want for a few days, til I have unpacked some of the
other boxes. I included toilet paper, paper towels, some silverware,
a few dishes, a pot and a pan and a few utensils for cooking.

I do the same with traveling about. I have one box that has toilet
paper, blackout curtains ( I am a night worker), a pot and a pan so
that I can cook, and a few other sundries that I know I will want the
first day or so. This box comes out first when I get to the new
apartment.
