Similar thing happened during the last two Hurry-Kanes through here (Orlando).
They shut off the main after we were supposed to have evacuated, and sent a crew
out to turn off all the curb-valves and post notes on the doors. I'm assuming
this was done after the "All Clear" was issued.
Considering the alternative, even without the prior warning you received, was
only slightly inconvenience. Your "*petty inconvenience*" describes it well.
