Before you even think about applying or committing that much
money to a career, make sure you get lots of hands-on experience.
One of my son's good friends worked all through high school at
an upscale restuarant all that had weekend buffets. He started
as prep staff and worked his way up to omelets. He ended up at
a culinary school but decided he couldn't take the hours,
commitment, and low salary of a chef and switched to resort
management. He's loving his job.

Being a chef is really nothing like FoodTV. It's hard, hot,
dirty work and few make it to the top ranks. Make sure you
know what you are getting into.
