My father *hates* the Red Cross. In WWII he was shot in the head
by a Japanese machine gunner. While convalescing, the Red Cross
came through with a PR photographer to take pictures of them giving
hot coffee to the wounded. After taking a picture of my dad with a
cup of coffee, they wanted him to pay for it. He refused, and they
demanded that he give the cup back.

There have been issues with Red Cross blood products as well. The
last I heard, they were still under a consent decree.
