The airlines have contracts with hotels for those special rates, but they are not
always 5 star hotels. My son worked in a hotel in Montreal that had a contract
with an American airline and was able to get me the special rate, which was about
50% of the regular price. It was a decent hotel. It had a small pool and work out
room and had a restaurant attached, but it sure wasn't one of the fancy 5 star
hotels.
