Not just the Google-users, either. I can _sometimes_ figure out where
someone is posting from; if the ISP is one I know is local to one area, for
example.

Of course, it's possible to _ask_. But my experience in other newsgroups
has been that the replies tend to be such unhelpful ones as "I'm in the
South," "I'm on the East Coast," "I'm in California."
