I am hopeful that somebody in South Africa might be a subscriber to
this newsgroup.

For those of us in the UK who lived through the war we nearly all
remember the wonderful melon and lemon jam that came in tins from South
Africain in food parcels. They must have been widely distributed - I
was a schoolboy in London whereas my wife was a schoolgirl in
Birmingham, yet we both have very fond memories of this superb jam.

The mysterious thing is that having given us all a taste for this jam
no exporter ever followed it up after the war. In fact, we have never
seen it since (and for many of us it would be a wonderful trip down
memory lane).

We have always been interested to know whether it is a jam that is
still known in South Africa - or was it truly a 'one off' memorable
occasion.
