I'm with you all the way!
I don't take this stuff seriously. This guy is a food writer, he has
to write about something to earn a living, He has the need to develop
a rarefied palate about such things and the time to do so. The big
problem with the "I don't eat produce unless it's absolutely fresh and
lovely" standard is that the number one priority should be getting
most people to eat more fruits and vegetables at all, not having them
obsess about in-season or top-quality!
