Well, it's only two cuts and a reassembly, from a square to the kite...
Slice form halfway up the left side to the top-right corner, and
from halfway up the left side to the bott-right corner. The piece off
the top becomes the bottom right (without turning), and the piece off the
bottom becomes the top right.
