The article is by Jeffrey Steingarten, Vogue's food writer. I usually
go to the local library and photocopy his articles, which appear every
other month. This article on rice is interesting, but not one of his
best: I had the sense he fell asleep and ended the article at that
point. :-)

BTW, he has two books published, each a collection of articles. Those
articles are much better and display his wit.
