Ha! Funny you should ask. This is one of my most commonly done and
favorite things to eat.
First, I simply chuck the the flavoring packets, as they have some
whey in them, and my kid is allergic to dairy. I have some "Beef
Base" and "Chicken Base" that comes in these tubs from Costco that I
use for flavoring.
Take like 4-6 oz frozen steak. Let thaw a little for easier slicing,
and slice thinly. Marinate in a little soy sauce and some of that red
Chili Garlic Sauce until the meat is thawed completely. (Yes, this is
in the danger zone, I'm sure). Set aside.
Slice Carrots, Celery, Green Onions, Mushrooms. Also, very thinly,
slice some Onions and Green Cabbage. Set aside.
Put 6 cups of water in a pot. Add 2 Tbls of Beef Base (or chicken
base, if you desire), or whatever ratio is needed to make "broth".
Add the carrots. Bring to boil over high heat.
Add Ramen Noodles and cook for time on package (usually 3 minutes).
Halfway through cooking, add celery, cabbage, and onions. After
noodles are tender, add mushrooms.
Then remove from heat, add green onions, and dump the sliced steak
(with the marinade) in. Stir. The already hot water cooks the thinly
sliced steak.
I usually add a little more soy sauce and the red chili garlic paste
stuff to my bowl to make it spicier. It is a total sodium fest, but
really good, I think.
And for whatever reason (too much information?) I inevitably have to
hit the bathroom about half an hour after eating. Maybe it's the beef
base. I dunno.
Have fun!
