I like to use Bush's Vegetarian Baked Beans and "doctor" them up a bit.
Sweat green onions, celery, bell peppers, and garlic in a little olive
oil. Pour liquid from beans into this mixture and cook until hot, add
beans, a little worchestershire sauce, and a little crushed pineapple in
its own juice or any other sweet thing you want (brown sugar, maple
syrup) and heat through but do not let cook too long -- the beans will get
mushy. Take off the heat, cover, and let them sit for a while for flavors
to come together. They don't need to be served hot, room temp is just as
good.
