I wish I'd seen one, but not on this trip (although a few weeks ago, I
did see some belugas on the drive back up). I did see a single seal
swimming in the harbor. Just a little head bobbing along. At first I
thought it was an otter (*much* more common), but then I realized it
wasn't facing the right direction (otters float on their backs, so
their faces are looking towards their tails) and it wasn't hairy. Saw
lots of eagles (several mature and juvenile bald and a few golden) and
there was a Stellar Jay that gave us quite a show when we took a break
on a small "beach". I think he was looking for a snack, and he got
rather annoyed with us when we didn't share. He stood on a driftwood
branch above the kayak and squawked --loudly -- at us while we ate our
granola bars (there's an on-topic portion, they were homemade bars).
Got relatively close to a couple of otters, but nothing like the slew
of them that we saw last weekend in another part of the state.

On-topic moment -- late dinner at Apollo's restaurant in Seward. I
split a bowl of excellent cioppino with a friend after an appetizer of
"Greek style brueschetta" and a glass of white wine. Excellent end to
a perfect trip.

Alexis.
