Go back to the map.

Have you been reading the various map threads? I gave directions in
those

If not, do this:

Using your left mouse button, move the map,so California is in the
center. THen start zooming in. Center the map again, so the SF area
is in the center...then zoom some more. Continue with this centering,
and zooming, til you get down to your street level.

And one thing I just discovered, which works with a lot of the maps,
if you get down to street level..you can switch to the satellite view,
and pick out your own house/residence. THEN, and only then, do you
mark the spot with whatever icon you choose.

The satellite view doesn't work with all..but it works with most up to
s point, so you can get closer in.
