I heard the author, Frank Browning, on a radio program, but can't remember
when or which program. It was a fascinating interview, though. He talked
about finding heirloom varieties that were generally thought to be
"extinct." Google on "heirloom apples" and you can see a ton of sites
dedicated to resurrecting the old varieties. I wish I could find some in
the orchards around here. Maybe I'll break the bank and send away for a
sampler this year.
