Here's an idea you might try.
Hunt around your house for a rectangular box (either cardboard or wooden).
I have a couple of wooden boxes that a couple of bottles of wine came in
that would do the trick. Or a box that something you bought came in that
would your amount of knives would fit into. In the box of your choice, you
can put a small kitchen towel in the bottom; then use another towel to
separate them from hitting together. This knife box will be handy (and
safe) for you to get to your knives when you set-up house-keeping.
