I think some of it's familial. We grow up with certain stuff and are turned
off by certain stuff and keep a mental dislike for
certain things. I used to hate raw onion in anything but somehow I got over
it and now I love it.
But, like you I detest bell peppers in most forms. I "do" use it for
flavouring. Chopped fine in chili, alaking curry etc.
