You'd get more information in the dc.dining newsgroup.

There's The Italian Store in Arlington, and an Italian Market in NW DC near
Gaulludet U. There's also a Little Italy in Baltimore, but it's not much
compared to Philly, NY, etc., and I don't find any of the many "good"
restaurants there to be really outstanding.

In DC, Roberto Donna's Galileo is absolutely top-notch (speaking nationally; it
might be the most refined and best Italian food in the country.)

There are numerous others, as you can see in Zagat, but they're not at Galileo's
level. It all depends on what how good you mean by "good."

Villa d'Este in Alexandria is quite good, as is Decarlos in NW DC. (They're not
all-red-sauce places.)
