My kitchen is pretty big, but the island is made from a standard
cupboard/countertop thing. It's about 36" long. Just countertop, no
grill, sink, or anything else, though there is an outlet on the side.
It came with the house.

There is room for a larger island, but you'd have to remove some of
the perimiter cupboards in order to have room to walk around it, open
the fridge, etc.

This is the first time in 35 years that I've had an island, and I
would never ever live without one again. Why, you ask? Because I can
watch TV and interact with people in the family room while I'm
cooking! This takes cooking to a whole new level for me, and I spend a
lot more time doing it. I only wish I could have a cooktop and small
sink in there as well. I seriously wouldn't need any other
counterspace.
