what security vulnerablities are you referring to? hell, a poorly patched
windows machine has more security vulerablities than you could shake
a stick at. mirc is the least of your worries. especially when there's only
only like 20 people on the entire network

mirc is not the only irc client in the world. there are tons of suitable windows
clients. xchat makes a windows port of their client. there's a mac based client
called snak that you could use as well. ('course you'll have to pay for it.)
