Pizza made as known in America was first *invented* in NYC, 1933... wasn't
twirled or sold in slices until 'bout 1960... read informative article in New
York Cook Book by Molly O'Neill, pg. 100.

There's nothing new about flat bread baked with toppings, 'bout every culture
evolved a version... and ANY dish with tomato (or potato) is definitely
American influenced.
