Individual by-the-glass wine decanter - ????
Happy Holidays to all!!
I am the proud new owner of an unusual wine decanter, from Italy, called a
Versovino. This is a device that you affix to the top of a wine bottle and
it 'decants' 100ml of wine, in a two step motion, as you pour. It claims to
approximate the aeration of normal decanting. Looks like something from a
chemistry lab - wine flows into a round bulb (aerating around the edge as it
moves) then you turn the device the other way and it empties through a short
tube. It's clear glass, but may work in a way similar to pre-set volume
pourers that are used in bars.
If anyone is interested, I can provide a url to their site, but I'm mostly
interested in thoughts about whether this is of any real value. There can't
really be much aeration into and out of a sphere that is only maybe 2.5" in
diameter.
