Default Putting my new foodie gifts to good use...

Yesterday, Mom and I took my daughter and her friend and went to the
farmer's market in Carlsbad. I was surprised to see strawberries, and quite
skeptical, as I'm sure you can imagine. Much to my delight, however, there
was one table where the berries stood out above the others in both color and
flavor. I dare say, they were actually tasty! So, knowing I had that shiny
new waffle maker just waiting at home, I bought 3 baskets, as well as a
basket of raspberries.

This morning I made Oatmeal Waffles from a recipe my mom gave me. The
strawberries were sliced and topped with some vanilla sugar my husband had
found that has vanilla bean flecks in copious amounts all through the
package. I also added a couple drops of orange juice from a red orange, and
some orange zest, carefully extracted by my new Microplane zester. Then I
very carefully folded in the raspberries. Wow. The combination was
delightful!

Here's the waffle recipe:
Mom's Oatmeal Waffles
Combine:
2 cups buttermilk
2 eggs
1 Tbsp molasses
1 Tbsp oil
Add:
1 cup quick cooking oats
Mix well and set aside. Combine:
1 cup unbleached flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp *each* baking soda and baking powder
Stir flour mixture into egg mixture. Do not overmix; there'll be some small
lumps.
Bake as per your waffle makers instructions.
NOTE: This recipe can also be used to make pancakes.

Enjoy!
