Yes. Clue 1 about watching television: YOU ARE NOT THEIR CUSTOMER.
YOU ARE THEIR PRODUCT*. THEY SELL YOU TO THEIR CUSTOMER, THE
ADVERTISER. IF THEY CAN SELL THE SAME PRODUCT TO ANOTHER CUSTOMER, IT
IMPROVES THEIR RETURN ON INVESTMENT.

* - or rather, you and other people like you, some of whom may have
missed the show once or twice

The solution to this is to record the shows that are on when you're not
around, and play those over the ones you've already seen. But even
that is likely to produce repeats, frequently. TV networks are
notoriously cheap *******s.
