Chocolate-Peanut Butter Crunch Bars

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
4 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup semisweet chocolate pieces
3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
chopped peanuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 F. In a large bowl, beat butter with an electric
mixer
on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add granulated sugar and brown
sugar. Beat until fluffy. Stir in rolled oats. Press mixture into the
bottom on an ungreased 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Bake about 15 minutes or
just until the edges start to brown. In a medium saucepan, cook and stir
chocolate pieces and peanut butter over medium-low heat until melted and
smooth. Spread chocolate mixture over the baked crust. If desired,
sprinkle with the peanuts. Cool in pan on wire rack until the chocolate
mixture is set. Cut into bars. Yield: about 36 servings
