Thirty something years ago *the* best fish shop in BNE was at Taringa;
on the left of the main drag heading out of town. I'm a bit hazy now
as to whether it was on the "one way" section, or whether the roads
had already rejoined by then. (That road's probably different now.
They sold absolutely delicious fresh prawns that had been cooked on
the trawlers out in the Bay the same day. (Don't know if the regs
still allow that -- ISTR that the food handling laws have banned it.)
On Friday evening I reckon half the bloody city must have been milling
around waiting for their bundle to take home. The "organisation" had
to be seen to be believed. Someone behind the counter would yell out
"Two fried plus chips" then about six people would claim the prize!
A bearded mate of mine was challenged that way one Friday by a bloke
who said he had been waiting for over 30 minutes; my mate replied that
he didn't have a beard when he came in...
